Follow Friday

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?

A. When I was a teenager, I could always be found with a book in my hand.  This hasn't changed, but the type of book I read has.  I was never one to read books for my age group. When reading books for school, I was usually ahead of everyone else. It was impossible for me to read at that slow pace.  In sixth grade I read Gone with the Wind. Back then I also read a lot of mysteries and crime fiction. Some of my favorite authors were Patricia Cornwell, Jeffrey Deaver, and James Patterson.  I had to read all of their books!  I didn't really read any paranormal or YA books as a teen.  The only paranormal I read was the occasional Dean Koontz and Kay Hooper's Bishop series.

Now, though, all you ever see me reading are books in the paranormal genre, both adult and YA.  There are so many wonderful authors to choose from, with novels dealing with vampires, werewolves, angels and demons to name just a few supernatural creatures.  I can't believe I find myself reading all of these Young Adult books now!  But I've found some really great books that are YA, and I'm glad that I was willing to expand my reading and try them out.

So basically, I read as much as a teen as I do now, but I've simply changed genres to read from. While I might still read from the mystery genre or general fiction genre, I find myself mostly drawn towards the paranormal. But I know I'm in good company!

  1. I love YA :) As a teen now, that's really all that I read (along with the occassional MG). Great answer!

  3. Hopping through. I didn't read Gone with the Wind until college. I think b/c my mom raved about it and I was being rebellious.

  6. I also love the paranormal genre. Although, it doesn't always dominate what I read. But, I love fantasy and anything mythological.

I was an avid reader as a teen too. Nothing's really changed since I still love reading paranormals too! I would always have a book in my purse at school so that no matter where I ended up I had something to read!

Lucky, I missed out on reading for fun through my teen years. School reading did that to me.
